The Montefiore Monument and Gardens

Location: Bridgetown, St. Michael
John Montefiore presented this Monument or Drinking Fountain to the thirsty wayfarers of Bridgetown, in memory of his father John Casteollo Montefiore who had been one of the first persons who died from Cholera in 1854.

This Fountain was opened on the 2nd November 1865, and was described as “a little gem of architectural beauty, there being nothing in Barbados to compare it with”.The Commission has developed the gardens in this area which serves as a recreational area and meeting point for members of the public.
